Evaluating Powers

Adding a power to a number provides a concise way to indicate that a number is being multiplied by itself several times.

The power is added to the top-right of the number (also known as the base) being multiplied.

For example, the expression 83 has a base of 8 and a power of 3.

83 = 8 x 8 x 8 = 512.

The power is also known as the index. The plural of index is indices.
