Subtraction of Fractions

To subtract one fraction from another we first rewrite the fractions to have the same denominator.

The new denominator (known as the common denominator) is the lowest common multiple of the original denominators.

The numerator of the second fraction is then subtracted from the numerator of the first and the result divided by the common denominator.
